Enter the world of Tera as one of seven player races, each with its own history, lore, and point of view. These are the races of the Valkyon Federation, leading the way into a new era of unity as they face a battle for their very existence.
The eight player classes of Tera each contribute their own style of combat, their own method and approach to tactics, and their own unique abilities in solo and group play. Get to know them here-their fighting styles, their tools, and their talents.
Tera is a world born of conflict. It's a place where gods scheme, armies clash, and the world can change in the blink of an eye. Thousands of years have passed since the two titans, Arun and Shara, lay down and dreamed the world and its inhabitants.
Your enemies are many and varied. Some are strong, some are intelligent-all are dangerous. Consider this your pre-mission briefing on beasts and bad guys. Get to know them, where they come from, and how they fight.
The world of Tera began millennia ago when two titans of unimaginable power, Arun and Shara, met in a formless void. For reasons we can only guess, they fell asleep. And as they slept, Tera took shape around them.
This is my review based on my own point of view. I'll keep it simple and to the point. My experience with MMO in the past:Silkroad (Lv. 68)Cabal (Lv.133)AION (Lv.56)TERA (Lv.38) as of time review is written ***UPDATE I am now Lv.60*NEVER IN MY LIFE I HAD TO PAY MONTHLY FOR ANY GAME... UNTIL TERA1. CHARACTER CREATION 4.5/5There are 7 races, and 8 classes. Races and classes are interchangeable at your own taste. A little math: 8*7 = 56 total possible combinations of character appearance vs class they play! This is a huge combination of diversity in the game. There are guys who play the little kitten in the game but wield a mighty axe. While there are some players who play the huge hulk-like Aman race but wield a tiny sorcercer disk.Detail customization however is strictly limited to facial appearance such as eye brown thickness, nose height, mouth width, and skull structure. I took off 1/2 star because there is no customization for character's height or fatness (bulkiness if you will).2. TRUE ACTION TARGETING SYSTEM 5/5Say good bye to the old point & click system. Your mouse movement directly controls the background environment and hence, your AIM! This means every single battle requires 100% of your attention and constantly aiming the cross-hair at your target. You can swing your sword as mighty as you could possibly swing, but if your cross-hair is 3 ft. away from your target, then you miss!No more boring Click->1,2,3,4->1,2,3,4->Loot. Another big advantage of this, NO BOTTER!!! Since you can't click targeting, I haven't seen a single bot anywhere!!!3. GRAPHIC 5/5This is credited to the use of Unreal Engine 3. Graphic is EXTREMELY beautiful. Certain cites such as the beaches, desert oasis, or jungles always look charming and serene. You might think that a graphic this good may take a big toll on your graphic card? No. I have a Radeon HD 4850 with only 1GB GDDR3 (3 yrs old) and it runs beautifully. Although, graphic setting could only afford Medium level but nonetheless (3/5 quality setting), TERA surpasses other big MMOs such as AION by far 100 miles. Not only that, mouse movement and environmental scanning are unbelievably smooth for such an out dating graphic card.Character details are carefully delivered from sun light reflected from the shiny weapon you wear on your back, to the smoothness of the leather armor that you're wearing.Trust me, if you have a high end graphic card like 1GB GDDR5, try maxing out the graphic setting and you will never want to log out of TERA.4. QUEST + GRINDING 4/5Similar to other MMOs. You go talk to different NPCs in towns and other camps for quests. Quest may require you to go kill a certain amount of mobs, talk to a key person, collecting materials, or directly defeat a BAM (Big-Ass-Monster). Sometimes there are multiple quests that require to kill the same mob, you can accept all of them and kill the mob all at once. However, unlike other MMOs, quests are NOT grind-fest at all. Meaning you only have to kill ~10 mobs, sometimes 20 at most per quest. For collecting materials, NPCs only require you to maybe go dig 6 mineral ores, or pick 5 Sickly Plants or something alike. Thus, the game environment constantly changes as you finish your quest in under 30 minutes, return them for reward, then move on to a new quest with different mobs, or even discover a new town! *OH and yes! THERE ARE CUTSCENES and MOVIES with real voice narrator to keep your interest at the maximum level.I took off 1* because although quests are fast pacing, they sorta get repetitive from town to town and from camp to camp. By the time you get to level 40 all the way to 60, they get boring. And then you realize that all these quests are made just to give you a complete tour around the ENTIRE map region. That's all.*UPDATE: Most of BAMs monster quests are often recommended for a party of 5 people. And when they say "recommended" they really mean "Team up or die trying". Even if you are 3~4 levels higher than the BAM, you may not stand a chance with those bad boys. A well balanced party with 1 tank to attract its attention and take all the hits (Lancer), 1 ranged, 2 damage dealers, and most importantly... a HEALER!!! If you are a Healer, good for you, because they are a scarcity in the game. Everywhere you go, every quest you do, and every party you join, people will welcome you with a warm and open arm. The success of the mission 80% rely heavily upon the Healer to keep other members healthy and ready to rock n roll. Without a Healer, the mission either ends disastrously, or takes an unusual amount of time to finish.5. LEVELING 4/5You may find this appeal to you or maybe not. I found that it is not that difficult to advance in level in TERA. Since quests are short, quick and easy, you constantly rack up all those free XP rewards which in turn build up your XP bar pretty fast. I hit Lv.60 in exactly 30 days before my free trial ran out (I play 5 days a week except weekends because I work). You do not have to grind for Skill Point to learn new skills. You BUY them. New skills are available for every 2 levels up, and their prices skyrocket pretty fast too. Just keep your eyes on your money and you'll be good. I found this somewhat similar to Cabal skill system. Except for there are more skills and upgrades rather than just buy the skill once and you can use it forever. For example:Combo Attack I: damage 9 13 14 18 cost 2 silver 50 penniesCombo Attack II: damage 20 24 26 29 cost 8 silver 80 penniesCombo Attack III: damage 33 37 38 44 cost 16 silver 10 pennies... so on(actual number and cost are not correct. I'm just trying to make them up for references)6. DUNGEONS 5/5This is where TERA is at its best. Dungeons are always meant for a party of 5. Use the built-in instant matching to help you get into a balanced team includes 1 tank, 1 heal, and several damage dealers. Each dungeons have at least 3~4 bosses, with the final boss defeating will reward the best gear (stuffs that are not dropped in world mobs). It feels extremely fun to be able to play as part of a team where all your skills are finally put to the test and shine when you discover your true role. The first few dungeons are nothing more of a "stick together and just kill everything in sight". As you progress to higher level dungeons, bosses get tougher and require special attention and manipulations to defeat it. For example: before unleashing a fatal 1-hit blow to all your party mates, some bosses require one of your member to break away from team and destroy a certain key object, some require manning a cannon and shoot a fireball at it and knock it over before it unleash the blow, some even require "run and look for cover or die". You just have to pay attention to its behavior and developed a good battle plan with your team before heading into battle. And if someone wonder about what the "endgame" feels like, this is it. It's nothing but running the last dungeons over, over, over, over, and over again until you get your Enigma gears (final gears). And trust me, the drop rate is RARE! I've seen guys who had to run it like 40 times before the right gear dropped for their class. For me, I got tired after 10 tries, so I went out and burned all my golds to buy them from the Broker. ^_^ <-- I could have took off a star there, but this is more like a problem because of level cap and the lack of my patience rather than a flaw in the dungeon system itself.Final thought: Does it worth to pay $14.95/mo to play? (or less if you currently have a longer period of billing with special discount, mine is $59.70/6 months--$9.95 a month since I bought it within the first 30 days)... YES DEFINITELY!!!!Disadvantage for pay: You have LESS population. Many people couldn't afford it so TERA didn't even cross there mind once. This means that all your friends in real life may not be on the journey with you. (happen to me)Advantage for pay: Constant updating. No BOTTER. No HACKERS. No GOLD sellers. No annoying channel shouting people. No cash shop for special items. Everybody have a fair chance to get the item of they want.*UPDATE: What if you want to play but still don't want to pay monthly? In the game, you can buy an item called "Chronoscroll" (just recently update in the last patch) using in-game gold money and it will give you 30 days of game time. The cost of it? It depends on supply and demand on the trade broker. But right now I saw it went down to as low as 1.8k gold in the broker yesterday. That is all for now. I will keep updating as time goes on with this game. Thank you for reading. Please rate and comment about anything you want to say.
