****** - Verified Buyer

Well I got Crysis 2 mostly for the fact that it's spring break and I wanted a game to play. I was a rather big fan of the first game despite its shortcomings, and was largely involved in it's modding community as well.I did have a few things worrying me going into this purchase, but for the most part my fears have been quelled. Crysis 2 from what I've played is an excellent game. I'm several hours into the single player and I've played plenty of the multiplayer (only on Crash Site and TDM though so far). It's a very beautitful game using every rendering whiz-bang under the hood. Motion blur, deferred rendering, global illumination lighting, parralax mapping, etc. And runs EXCELLENT too - I'm maxing the game out at 1680x1050 res on a 460GTX 1GB. Not even the first Crysis does that (well it does, but with slowdown at parts). And runs pretty smooth throughout the whole thing. If you want to give yourself an extra treat the game even supports a crosseye sterioscopic 3D mode. It's not very practical for gameplay but it's fun to use to really make the visuals pop. If you have a 3D monitor, then you can simply use 3D at full resolution. That said, people shouldn't expect a direct port of Crysis 1 in a new setting with this. There are some signifigant differences.--------Singleplayer:--------The gameplay is really smooth and truely feels like Crysis, despite claims that the game is more linear. Yes, the enviornments you go through on your adventure in singleplayer are not nearly as open and large as the ones in Crysis 1, but this is expected: the game does take place in a city. However the style of "non-linear" open ended gameplay to reach your goals is still there - many areas in the game provide you with a large amount of options to getting to where you need to go. From using brute force, to being creative, to being mobile, to being stealthy this game has EVERY area covered.Brute force: Go in with armor mode and laugh as your enemy's rounds bounce off you. Rip off mounted machine guns, air stomp, and power-kick objects into your foesCreative: Steal vehicles to drive over enemies, lure them to a spot by shooting then going into stealth for a big grenade kill, throw objects on them, grab them by the throat, throw explosive barrels around them as makeshift grenades, attach C4 to vehicles for carbombs, etc.Mobile: Ability to ledge grab and power jump by holding space can get you to many places. Slide around by crouching while you sprint. Lean around edges and over cover using a rather interesting cover system that reminds me of Rainbow Six Raven Shield. Use multiple routes to get to your objectives, some less obvious than others.Stealth: Sneak past a large amount of enemies thanks to cloak mode. It's not the instant-win it was in Crysis 1 though - enemies can still see you up close at least on harder difficulties. Many levels have some kind of sewer or subway system that let you bypass enemies - I'm pretty sure you can beat a large amount of this game without making a single kill. You can now also to brutal stealth kills by sneaking behind someone while cloaked.Anyways, the game is full of these moments. Despite being more "linear" it still retains the open ended gameplay, patrol watching and enemy tagging of Crysis 1. Several sections do have you going through corridors but it's by far not the focus of the game. The story so far seems allright, it's nothing amazing. I hear it gets more interesting later on however. That's not to say it's bad - it provides a great somewhat unique backdrop for some stunning visuals and really cool level designs. But the plot itself doesn't seem too compelling so far. It's pretty much on par with Crysis 1's story, if not a little better.Speaking of which, the Aliens are much better to fight against than in Crysis 1. They are actually mobile now, and really fast- almost cat like. They are really cool enemies to fight against and are much more fun to defeat. Even if they are just "lol aliens" from a plot standpoint.Your suit also can be upgraded how you choose much like your weapon attachements can be swapped out on the fly in-game.----------Multiplayer:----------Despite claims that it's a Call of Duty clone, it really feels unique enough to make it much more interesting to me than CoD ever was. I'll admit - I'm NOT a fan of Call of Duty. I just think it's fast gameplay is completely silly with their "realsitic setting" motifs. I'm weird like that. However, that fast paced inspired gameplay feels much more at home in the Crysis universe. Mix in some nanosuit powers, a more unique take on killstreaks (you have to get dogtags that fall off enemies, not simply kill), and it feels unique enough to be its own beast. And that's not to say you have to play fast - stealth and armor adds a whole new dynamic to the formula. Your energy only last for about 7-8 seconds when in stealth so you have to use it with skill to use it well. Armor makes you take plenty of damage but comes at a cost of energy (which you use to sprint and powerjump) and you move slower. If you don't use armor, you can die pretty quick. So it plays a little slower and cautious than CoD because of this. People who tend to zip around the map are pretty easy to kill if you can hit, while those who prefer to tank can do so effectively. Variety of weapons give plenty of playstyle choices. Shotguns require you to get close, snipers are great from a distance. Sniping doesn't feel OP because of the close-quarter nature of many maps, and because you need to actually collect dog tags to earn killstreaks (which makes sniping a WHOLE lot more fun to play too).Killstreaks are map specific. The first one is always a radar unlock. Second kill streak changes depending on map... sometimes its an orbital strike, other times its a radar jammer, and other times it'll make the enemy team's nanosuits not work. The final killstreak (7 dog tags collected) from what I've seen seems to always be a gunship summon.Several gametypes are included as well, though I've not tried them all. You have DM, TDM, Crash Site (random objectives you have to hold spawn around map), Assault (A team of Nanosuits vs. normal humans with better weapons try to complete objectives), CTF, King of the Hill, etc.Balance is pretty good, though not perfect. There's too high of an emphisis on headshots which feel like they are really easy to get in this game. The SCAR (default assault rifle) seems borderline OP in the sense that it has very little recoil but still good damage. It's easy to get sniped across the map from one. And since both Crotch shots AND head shots are instant kill (even in armor mode it seems), it makes it even easier. Finally, you have unlocks. Over 60 levels of experience you get from playing the game. Each weapon has a vast number of unlocks you can get for it too. Get 60 kills with the sniper, and earn yourself an unlock point which can go twoards getting reflex sights, silencers, extended mags, etc. Your abilities also have this - there's a a large array of unlocks you can get in every suit mode category. Armor has stuff like armor enhancing, air stomp etc. Stealth has a stealth enhancer, cloak detector, etc. Then you have misc unlocks like reloading faster, etc. You can only have one unlock active in each category, AND each individual unlock can be leveled up too!So by making say... 200 kills while cloaked and with stealth enhance active, your Stealth Enhance ability gets even better (doesn't cast shadow, drains less energy, etc). Every unlock it appears so far is like this. There's some serious longevity here.-------Downsides:-------First of all, there is no editor (yet) unlike Crysis 1 which shipped with it. I imagine at the latest they'll have an editor released in the summer when they officially release their stand-alone Cryengine for indie devs, if not sooner.Secondly, it's true - you can't customize your graphic options in game. Out-of-game config files seem to appear to still work, but this is a pretty weird oversight. I have a feeling it'll come when DX11 is patched here in the coming months.Oh and speaking of which, DX11 support doesn't ship with it. It's coming though, but still a downside for you all who wanted to experience the best of the best.Quicksaving seems oddly absent, you have to rely on checkpoints. Which isn't so bad, but on the hardest difficulity against some pretty damn good AI it's really a pain. Also while the suit mode gameplay is still there and feels really balanced, I'd still like to of seen the abilities be more pronounced. Going into sprint mode for both single and multi seems oddly slow (I feel like i could sprint faster IRL) for example. If you've played CoD to death you'll probably not enjoy the multiplayer as much since it still does feel rather similar. Unless you are still a huge fan of it and are itching for more, then you'll love the improvements Crysis 2 brings to that formula.Costs $60. Which isn't so bad with Amazon's current $10 promotional credit you get, but still a retarded cash in.---------------------Well that's about it. Pretty solid game, with no huge flaws in my eyes. It's different than Crysis 1, but I feel like it improves a lot of what left the first game a little sour. The multiplayer may be a little more by the books compaired to Crysis 1's, but it works a lot better too and still remains unique. In a market where the only good multiplayer shooters have terrible campaigns or campaigns that only last seemingly a couple of hours, it's nice to see Crysis 2 which has a very awesome single player that is lengthy and a solid multiplayer component as well (which is much better than CoD in my eyes).Add in future modding support and potential Crytek will most likely be releasing later this year with their stand-alone SDK, and you have a winner. So I pre-ordered this cause I really liked the first game. Playing as a guy in a suit who can go invisible, increase strength (such as jump, and throw), and speed was a lot of fun. Also the plot of the first game even though it was lacking was still entertaining. I expected this one to be great. Then they decided to dumb down the PC version so they could also have it on PS3 and x-box 360 and that kinda ruined it in my opinion. The plot is more fleshed out in this one and kinda interesting but kinda lacking in some spots.Unfortunately they completely forget about Nomad and Pysco. Only showing Prophet briefly at the beginning. You end up playing as the silent protagonist who they actually gave a name (Alcatraz). You then go through New York on a set path which you cannot div-ate from or at least look around very far unlike the first game. Then near the half way point you get to enjoy fighting some aliens that are different from the first game and talk to the suits creator and eventually meet him (kinda). The fighting is kinda fun but its not as great as the first game cause your stuck in these small areas and such. The part I liked in the first game was HUGE open areas where you could go multiple ways to get to your destination and fighting smart AI with whatever buildings and parts were quite destructible. In this one you can barely make a dent in anything even after they sent out an update to help make it more realistic. Also the weapons aren't much to write home about. They seem to be the same 1-2 weapons just a slight difference. And later on near the end levels when you finally get different ones you barely get to use them or they aren't that great. (ie the microwave gun?)Also slight SPOILERS below for the plot on something I really found to be dumbfounded.------------------------So when Heartgrieve tries to get your suit because he needs it instead of giving a few soldiers some of the nano suits he has laying around all over his office/home or training some for a while after Prophet leaves. He instead sends ORDINARY solders against you? I thought he was saying "this isn't a war ordinary soldiers can win" As well as even though the new solders with the nano suits (even older models) wont be as experienced with them or have the upgrades that Prophet and Alcatraz get when playing with the alien's toys they would still do better then regular soldiers I would think. Being able to go invisible, being stronger, faster, and having a tactical mode to help them in some spots would help them a lot more then just going out with some army experience and a gun. Heck even the first game had a few Korean knock off nano suits and when that part in the game came up I was actually kinda freaked out seeing something moving and being invisible and then realizing there are some nano suit Koreans with sub machine guns waiting for me was actually quite awesome. Yet in this game there is not ONE! other nano suit guy trying to fight me. How stupid can the game creators be and the people who made the plot. Maybe it was just they wanted Heartgrieve to look like an idiot when trying to capture you"hmm lets see.. I need that specific suit.. I have plenty of old version nano suits all over my office/home maybe I should have one or two of my army guys get in one and fight Alcatraz with it and maybe then I can subdue him and get the suit.. nah ill go against what I told Prophet and use ordinary soldiers to take him down."That was something I found really annoying and stupid. Also something similar on that note the aliens are trying to also take down Alcatraz as well it seemed like once you finally meet them. Yet not until the last part of the last mission do you fight any that can go invisible as well as being strong etc. They even hinted at it during the game at 1-2 spots where you see the invisible alien go visible and run away but never fight you. That was pretty stupid to. They should have had them throughout the game after you meet the aliens but no they decided lets have an epic final battle at the end and use them. Even though it wasn't much of an epic battle. :S------------------------End of minor SPOILERSSo anyways this game kinda let me down in quite a few ways but I haven't even gotten to the multiplayer. Now that was one part that when I started playing before the game came out turned out to be great. The first games multiplayer kinda stunk and was difficult to get to work. This one though was lots of fun. However, a problem arose where someone leaked the game online and then all of a sudden everyone could play it free if they got it illegally. Well before the game came out I got beta access to multiplayer and you had two choices: Use a gamespy account (also linked with IGN.com account) or get a mycrysis.com account. I choose gamespy since I already had an account there anyways and I didn't want to sign up for another thing. Well after the fiasco of the game getting leaked the full game came out and to combat it they made people get a mycrysis.com account. So I made a new account at mycrisis.com unfortunately since I used a gamespy account I couldn't use the same ingame name or something. But then the gamespy account info worked again and because I pre-ordered my game I had a few in game things for multiplayer. I also had lots of points on one account over the other. When trying to get rid of one account I came across another problem. Both accounts were tied to the same e-mail. So if I changed the password of one it changed the other as well. I could not get on and use one account while the other I could. Mycrysis.com wouldn't allow anyone to change their e-mail associated with their account (at least not the people who pre-ordered or bought the game right away. The ones who waited and got accounts could. So I got stuck in a huge mess without any way of changing e-mails for the accounts. In this day and age its amazing that a company wouldn't let you do something so simple. I got tired of trying to transfer over the items I got with my pre-order and losing all my points I had gotten.Around the same time as well was a massive influx of hackers and cheater on multiplayer. Eventually it seemed every session you played there was at least one. They kept trying to combat this with no avail it seemed and just caused more problems for the people who bought the game and were playing it fairly. I even got slack from regular players when some sessions I would use a grenade launcher which was one of the guns that are actually in the game. They got all whiny because it was "to over powered" its not my fault, that's one of the guns in the game. If your gonna whine and such do it to the people who choose to have that gun in the game. Even got threatened to be kicked/banned from some servers for trying to use guns when there was no warning of not to. There is also the problem with some players who spend every waking minute on there unlocking all the good weapons/etc and then having an advantage against players who just start out. Again it was fun at first but then became bad cause of the hackers and such.To shorten all that up:Pros-1. New story with a better plot2. The parts with Heartgrieve were entertaining and fun. Kinda wanted more of a back story or something.3. Multiplayer was fun at first (before the hackers/cheaters)Cons-1. Linear single player2. No challenging single player fights (ie from the spoilers section)3. Multiplayer (from the hackers/cheaters/whiners)4. No support with account problems from mycrysis.com such as being able to change e-mail's (which no longer exsists apparently was shut down)This game could have been a lot better but unfortunately I guess they were under pressure to make it so it could come out on PS3 and 360 which dumbed down the PC version. Also the leak of the game before launch really hurt the multiplayer with hackers/cheaters. Also the story wasn't as good as it could have been in some plot points but since the company is more interested in making really cool looking realistic demos then games I can understand why.Well that's it from me hope my review helped sorry if it was a bit to long. This game so cool that you will not believe such a game was created in 2011!The game pack contains a single DVD for installation and a sticker pasted inside it has a serial key needed when installing the game. You can play this game at around 25-30 fps with just a Intel HD 4000 graphics card (of course at low setting) but still low settings looks pretty good enough.well the game graphics is a bit high so its a lil laggy in low configured PC,but you can set it to low settings and play, the problem is in loading,it will say the game is not found in directory,so I guess there is a problem with the launcher. After the update it does not patches properly. But the issue gets resolved reinstalling the game ( not the whole system just uninstall the game from control panel and load it again) .And in regards to Amazone the delivery was in time as usual, game cd was perfect without any scratches the activation key worked properly in a single go , thanks to AmazoneThe Good: An excellent follow-up to the first game. Stunning graphics. Interesting gameplay and story. By no means a simple "shoot-em-up". Lots of strategy involved and multiple routes to success in most scenarios. Challenging but feasible. Good balance weapons. Likable characters. The Bad: Checkpoint save only. Uneven scenarios with some too easy and some almost unfeasible. Very demanding on hardware. Must have a high end computer to run smoothly and even then...Overall: One of the greatest FPS pc game. Can't really pass it if you did the first one. Great price on Amazon. As the heading suggests, it's a mere shadow of the original Crysis and its standalone extension - Warhead. But it's still extremely entertaining and guaranteed not to disappoint! Multiplayer is dead because GameSpy (which owned the multiplayer servers) has shut down as of 2013 but still a worthy buy.Amazon is as good as ever with the delivery. Only disappointment is with the box art. They used a classics edition box art, instead of the original Crysis 2 box art. It's not a concern for most probably, but for me it is, since I'm a huge fan of this series and bought it to complete my collection. I guess I'll just print out a new art on magazine paper, so it's not too big an issue.Far more linear than it's predecessor. Also has a glitch that's never been fixed that will cause it to run at 30hz if you don't start the game in windowed mode then switch to full screen during the developer emblems.I'd give the game itself 4 stars despite the step backward in world structure, but unfixed glitches bring it down.
